Summer 2012 Reading Plans

So, I have quite a few summer 'goals' and I thought I'd share them with you.

  1. Read and watch the Harry Potter series again. I'm going to watch the series in one week, so a movie every night starting from tonight (2nd June). I should be finished by Friday 9th June as there is 2 movies for the last book. I am not going to read the entire series because it's a lot more time consuming than watching the movies but I'm going to be reading my favourites which are Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I will be waiting a couple of weeks after watching the movies before reading the books because I don't want it too fresh in my mind or I won't enjoy it. But I do want to be able to make direct comparisons between the books and movies which I haven't been able to do because there has always been too much of a gap between watching and reading the Harry Potter series so I end up forgetting things.
  2. Read all seven of the Stephen King books currently shelved on my TBR. I have UR, The Drawing of the Three, Under the Dome, Needful Things, Bag of Bones, Cell and 'Salem's Lot. I have had 'Salem's Lot, The Drawing of the Three and Under the Dome for so long. I got UR on my Kindle yesterday and I got the other three only recently in a second hand bookshop.
  3. Read as many new authors as possible. My specific goal would be to read at least five new authors this summer. I tend to stick the same authors for quite some time and then move on to something else but I think I'll try and vary it as much as I can this summer.
  4. Read as far as The Wind Through the Keyhole in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. This book is book 4.5 in the Dark Tower series which was released in April this year. It will hopefully still be available in hardcover by the time I get around to buying it which is why I want to read as far as that this summer. I started the series about two years ago and read only the first book. I don't know why I didn't continue. I have the second book on my TBR shelf, linked above so I will read that soon.

Have you any goals for the summer? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Harry Potter is one of the few series that I've reread multiple times. The first time I read it, my favorite character was Hagrid. Now that I'm the mommy to two boys, I find that my favorite character is Neville. I think it's amazing that Rowling was able to completely flesh out even the secondary characters. The way Neville changed over the series was amazing and perfectly consistent and plausible. You'll have to let us know if you changed favorite characters during your rereading.

It looks like you have a great summer of reading. I'm still planning my summer reads.

    1. I can never fully decide my absolute favourite character. Though, currently my favourites would be Ron and Luna. I'll make sure to let you know if I change my favourites.

I hope you enjoy whatever books you choose for summer.

  2. I love Stephen King! He's one of my favorites. I think you'll like his book Cell, it seems a little different from his other writings but I enjoyed it.
